May is ending, long live May!

If you are like most of Amsterdam this past month, then you have fully embraced the explosion of culture and social outings that the city has offered. WHAT A MONTH!

Or, you are like me, and you spent most of the nice days flat out in Vondelpark or on some sunny terrace soaking up the wine.

I mean, sun.

No, no I meant wine.

There are only 6 days left of May, so what are you going to do with your time?

Some ideas:

Art Amsterdam 26 – 30 May at the RAI Conference center.  This is the largest exposition of art in the Netherlands, and the program this year includes debates, guided tours, presentations, workshops and performances.  Get your arty farty party on!

If the sun is too much for you (VAMPIRE!) then head indoors for the Cinemasia Asian Film Festival going on now at Het Ketelhuis in Westerpark until the 30th of May.  If you visit during the weekend, also check out the Asian Bazar with Asian food stalls and goodies!  I don’t know about you, but I love me some Asian food.

Also this weekend on Friday the 28th of May: the Cinemasia Queer Karaoke, where you can “dance the night away to the latest Asian pop tunes and gay dance hits”.

If you are a filmmaker in Amsterdam, then here is something special for you!  The 48 Hour Film Challenge!  Show up on Friday night at the Ketelhuis for your instructions on what the subject of the film should be, and then you have 48 hours to make a film, which will then be premiered on the 1st and 2nd of June!  READY SET FILM!!!!!!!!!!  (PS call me if you need an award winning actress!  Or….just an extra. …..Key grip? …..sandwich maker?)

Since you are a LONG TIME reader of this blog (right?  RIGHT?) then you already know about the Off-Centre Festival happening at the Melkweg from the 26th to the 30th of May.  But in case you missed that post, here it is again: Off Centre Festival.  Sign up for our RSS feed and you won’t miss a post again!  Nudge, nudge.

This Thursday (27 May) is the Hilfiger Denim Live show at Paradiso.  That pretty much speaks for itself I think, or if not just check out the lineup.

For something a bit more lowkey and quirky, check out the Mind The Gap session at Studio K on Sunday the 30th of May.  An extended evening of spoken word, freestyle storytelling, and live Twitter poetry.  Sounds eclectic and unusual, so should be interesting to see!

And if all of the above sounds like too much effort and culture, well then screw it.  Check out one of our recommended terraces and just veg out, you culture-phobe!
